Since I’m going to Qinghai in a couple of days, I should finish off this round of photo colourisation by doing something on that province.
The explorer Joseph Rock describes his attempt to reach the mountain of Amnye Machen via Labrang and Radja monastery in a 1930 National Geographic article entitled ‘Seeking the Mountains of Mystery’. You can read the original online here.
I’ve also written a long blog article about my trip to the area a decade ago, when I visited Choni (and got chucked out by the cops) and Radja monastery.
And this week I have colourised all the photos from that article and published them alongside the article on my substack page here.
