Muli valley to be flooded
Sad news. The Muli river valley is to be flooded with the creation of six dams by China Hydro. This maps shows the location of the dams, with several between the old monasteries of Waerdje (here marked as Muli Sanqu) and Muli monastery.
A larger, high definition version of this map can be downloaded here.

Hi, Thanks for the headsup about the dams. Do you have any idea of where online to find more info about the flood plan? Thanks, Evan in Beijing
Dr Joseph Rock was an Austrian-American botanist who explored the Tibetan borderlands of Sichuan and Yunnan in the 1920s and 30s. This is about my travels to revisit the places he described in the National Geographic magazine. Any questions? contact me at beijingweek AT gmail

Not really, except for typing in the characters for Muli and hydroelectricity in Chinese to Baidu - sorry!
