Random photo: Yading accomodation for visitors in the 1990s

Back in the 1990s there was just a trickle of visitors to the newly created 'Yading nature area' - the three sacred peaks known to Joseph Rock as Konka Risummgonba. In response, the locals erected  a few shacks from bits of wood, cardboard and plastic sheets. They also put up a few marquee tents and stuck a few camp beds inside. I stayed in one of these and it was freezing, as you can imagine. It was all very primitive and these eyesores have now been demolished. However, the new concrete  'golf buggy' track and the other 'modern' installations are even more of an eyesore.

I agree about development at some of these sites...and if a golf buggy ride is required, that's another 20RMB you can squeeze out of the visitors !!

It was quite a bit more than 20RMB - more like 80 if I remember rightly.
