On his personal blog that kham photographer posted a link to some tibet photos taken in 1942 by an army expedition. Pretty interesting: http://www.mexicanpictures.com/headingeast/2007/03/tibet-1942.html
That's a great site. I've read a book with some of these photos but didn't realise they were available online. I will add a link to my sidebar,
