Minya Konka horses, 1994

This is the descent from the Tsemi La to Tsemi village. My guide Ge-Ler was up ahead somewhere. Great bloke, he made me carry on when I collapsed form altitude sickness and exhaustion on this trip. He's from Lao Yulin.

This area of Kham known as Minya is no doubt magnificiently beautiful as seen in the early Nationl Geographic articles of Dr. Rock. 'Khye Bumsa', the ancestor of the Sikkimese Monarchs trace their lineage from Kham Minya. Kham Minya people are traditionally pious and possess a great heritage. Many precious reincarnations of Tibetan lamas are Minyawas. The great Minya Konka, may it always remain great and unchanging! Hats off to the great people of Kham Minya!

Minya has produced the Denzong Chogyals of Sikkim whom originate from Kham Minya, and the Minya blood line contiunes in the Royal family of Bhutan through Rani Chuni Wangmo Dorji, daughter of Maharaja Thutop Namgyal of Sikkim married to Raja Sonam Tobgye Dorji of Bhutan. Their daughter is the Queen Mother of Bhutan, mother of King Jigme Singye Wangchuk.

i understand the the minya area is in the present chengdu region where the recent massive earthquake happened. the chinese refered to the area as "minyang" and there is no trace of tibetans despite part of ethnic tibet. what was minya in the 1920's and looking at it today has certainly seen mass chinese influx into this once remote region. surely the tibetan panda bear habitats are not very far from this beautiful region of tibet.the panda bears bear chinese names when in fact these are also tibetan found in the tibetan territories.

Not really. This area is quite far from Chengdu, and apart from Kangding (where there have historically been many Chinese) there are mostly only Tibetans in these remote areas. It was not much affected by the recent earthquakes.
